American Inn

The staff at American Inn were extremely kind, and the room was clean with a really comfortable bed and pillows. We’d gone to Dogwood Canyon for our 22nd anniversary and decided to find a motel for the night. We liked it enough to stay two nights. It showed us we didn’t need a chain motel or a site promising the cheapest rate. I’d definitely recommend this place.

You have to chase someone down and beg for towels and washcloths, then carry your dirty ones back to them to get replacements. They give just one room card per room, which gets annoying. Breakfast was basically shared milk and bread, a few bananas, and cereal. The place is gross. There are stains all over the box spring covers, like they never take them off to wash. You can even tell where the smoking rooms begin as you walk past the nonsmoking rooms in the hallway. For what they charge, this is more expensive than nicer places in town. Anyone rating it above two stars is lying.

He also tried to get my husband to cancel my booking through the travel agency and book directly with him, saying that way he’d get an extra 20%. When I asked whether they accepted seizure alert service animals, the man at the front desk lost his temper. He first claimed there was no room available, then told my husband the pet service fee would be $900 a night. I went in with documentation for my six-year-old, fully trained alert dog, and he yelled at me even though he knew I have a disability. Service animals can’t legally be charged a fee. After I told him that, he canceled the room I’d already booked, saying it was no longer available. He refused service because I had my life-saving alert dog with me. I left in tears because he wouldn’t let me explain. He smelled of alcohol and was rude, and I’ve never been treated this way trying to check into a hotel. If you want respect and a comfortable stay, I wouldn’t choose this place. I should’ve read the reviews first. I hope other guests have a better experience.

The room itself was awful. The fridge didn’t work, the bed was extremely uncomfortable, and the hallway smelled strongly of cigarettes. After paying cash, we were also charged more than we should have been, and he wouldn’t give us our change. We arrived just after 3 after booking through priceline. The guy was upset that we’d used priceline and said he couldn’t get to the page to confirm the reservation. We hadn’t paid through priceline yet, so we went ahead and took a room. Stay away. I’ll report this to priceline and whoever else I need to.
