Crest Trail Lodge

The property looked newly updated and was clean, and there was enough room for our family of six. Amanda was especially wonderful. She helped us work through some room changes and was so kind and generous about it. She didn’t have to help us that much, but went above and beyond for our family. We’ll definitely stay here again when we’re back in the area.

Check-in went smoothly, and Jessica was great. The rooms were clean. But when I returned my keys and asked the woman at reception for a receipt copy for my expenses, she was rude and unwelcoming. She asked if we thought they were trying to scam us. If she assumed that from my request, I wonder whether something had happened before.

The rest of the experience was decent, but check-in was marred by an extremely rude staff member. The hotel had charged my card before arrival, which is normal and fine with me. At the desk, “Ag” said state law required a credit card to have printed numbers on it. I travel often, including in Washington, and always use this card, and I’d never heard of such a law. I’d be happy to see the rule, but suspect the property has outdated processes. She wouldn’t look at the card number in my bank app, even though it would have matched her records. Instead, she said she’d refund the card and needed a payment card with printed numbers. I kept asking how the refund would work and what other payment she’d accept. She got defensive and told us we could “take our business elsewhere.” At one point she raised her voice and said, “don’t talk back to me,” while cutting me off at several points herself. I don’t expect high service, but I do expect basic respect as a paying customer, and hotels should update their processes instead of claiming “it’s the law” when it isn’t. The staff member working the next morning was wonderful, so I’m sure the property can do better. EDIT: Management doesn’t seem much better, judging by the photo attached to my Expedia review. The card reader clearly worked, since that’s how we were charged, and the yelling was directed at paying customers.

The room was a good size, clean, and had comfortable beds, so we rested well during our one-night visit to Mt. Rainier National Park. The staff were very friendly, and the front desk offered complimentary apple cider and a hot chocolate package.
