Inverness 509 has direct beach access and ocean-view rooms, and the balcony was a good size for sitting outside when it was too windy to be down on the beach. Those were the main upsides. The rest of the property looked worn, grungy, and poorly maintained. On our first night, I found two roaches crawling in the cooking utensil drawer. I had to hand-wash everything we used, then dried the dishes with paper towels all week because I didn’t trust the dish towels from those drawers. That soured me on the room, and I’ve now labeled Inverness “Roach Motel” in my map notes. The beds were so high they needed stairs to climb onto, higher than Willie Nelson. Of the balcony door locks, only one worked, and so much fogging and debris was trapped between the glass panes that we couldn’t see outside. We didn’t discover the second bathroom until the morning of day two, when my wife noticed its door behind the mostly closed bedroom door. The elevators were unreliable, though there are two, since the one on our end was often out. The security fob was meant for the parking garage and beach gates, but all but one door was inoperable. The sturdy balcony railing may meet safety code, but it blocked much of the beach view. Glass panels would help, though given the condition of the place, I doubt they’re in the budget.

Great views and atmosphere, and good value for the money. This place deserves a rating higher than three stars!

If being right on the beach matters more to you than the room’s condition, this may be the place. The room was dirty and outdated. I don’t normally see hotel mattresses, but the checkout instructions said to strip the beds completely or face an extra $150 cleaning fee. The mattresses were dirty, and the master bedroom had only a full-size bed, raised at least three feet off the ground. The two beds in the other room were high too. The dog-waste bin overflowed throughout our three-night stay, and only one elevator worked. The pool was surprisingly nice, but there was no shade anywhere on the deck. The rented “beach” towels were flimsy little bath towels that were falling apart, and most of the room’s bath towels were worn and torn. The tub and shower were worn and dirty, rusty screw heads showed on the baseboards, and the couch had random stains. The kitchen looked clean at first, but the appliances and silverware looked dirty up close. I have photos, but can’t add them here.

Our condo was perfect for two, and I love that the property is right on the beach. The elevators were frustrating, though. One was completely out of service, and the other went out from time to time.

We had an oceanfront room with a huge patio. The ocean views and sound of the waves were lovely.
