Lake Powell Canyon Inn

The location was one bright spot. I could walk across the street to the gas station for ice, since the ice machine never worked during my Wednesday-to-Sunday stay. The pool stayed padlocked, despite warm weather in the 80s and 90s and looking usable. A friendly front desk worker, good AC, and decent shower pressure were about the only other positives. The room, bathroom, and shower were filthy, with mold and grime in the corners. Parts of the walls and ceiling were peeling and crumbling. I never had hot water at the sink or shower. The badly laid shower tiles left an inch or two of standing water unless I pushed it toward the drain with my foot or a sandal. Once, on the second day, the water suddenly turned scalding in the middle of an otherwise cold shower. Construction started 15 feet from my door between 6 and 7 a.m. every day, including the weekend, and continued late. On Saturday night I heard one worker still remodeling after 8 p.m., complaining that he had to work while other people were in Vegas for a birthday or home with family. Friday and Saturday brought loud music and partying outside my sliding door until about 2 a.m. I had to keep socks or shoes on indoors because the floors and carpets were so disgusting, and after several days of cold showers I just wanted to sleep. They spent Saturday and Sunday morning filling parking lot cracks with tar and repaving all day. Cars, including mine, were left parked there while they worked around them. When I packed up Sunday, cones made it hard to get out, and they were still tarring the lot. I’ve stayed in some laughable places and know you give things up to save money, but this was insane.

There was no hot water from the faucets or shower. The rooms weren’t properly cleaned, and the air smelled moldy. The bathroom seemed barely tidied and had little that was useful. The tub was practically confidence-draining. The place felt dirty and unwelcoming. Rubbish covered parts of the exterior and grounds. There was a dumpster right behind the building, with bulky junk such as old mattresses and furniture lying around. Not worth staying, even once in a blue moon.

I had to book another hotel right away because the room wasn’t fit to stay in. It smelled bad, the door handle was broken, water kept running in the bath, and moths were flying around. The AC unit was filthy and sat right over the pillow. Reception was unattended for much of the day, so there was no way to get help. Completely unacceptable, the worst place I’ve ever been. Avoid it.

For the price, I didn’t see any major issues. It’s an old place, but fine for sleeping for a while, and the bed was comfortable. The room was okay for what I paid. I was more worried after reading the reviews than I was once I saw it in person. Check-in is only from 4 to 8 p.m., there’s no breakfast, and the microwave is on the second floor.
