Elktrace Bed & Breakfast

The staff were kind and helpful, and breakfast was good. We had a wonderful rest in the wilderness at this fabulous lodge, with great rooms. There were lots of pet friendly guests, and the owners' dogs were sweet and quiet. ❤️

We felt so unsafe and uncomfortable that we left right away. The owner refunded 2/3 of our nights, but I think we should have received a full refund. The room we booked didn't even have a door, and the listing was extremely misleading. I can't understand how there are so many positive reviews. I booked through Expedia, where the room was advertised as an adorable “Deluxe Queen Loft.” It sounded like we'd have a small cabin to ourselves, with breakfast and other shared space in the main lodge. But when we arrived, the owner mentioned “the other couple in here” as we went inside. The “Deluxe Loft” had no lock and no door separating it from the rest of the small cabin we were apparently sharing with strangers. When I looked confused, she just said, “well, no one will come up here”. She offered a small room downstairs with a real door, but this was still a tiny shared cabin, nothing like the deluxe suite I'd booked and paid extra for on a romantic vacation. She also said the outside doors had to stay unlocked all day and night so the other couple could get in. She assured us again that “no one would come in,” but how could she know? This is a very remote area, and I didn't feel safe sleeping in an unlocked house with two strangers. I think that's fair. Maybe things are more normal in the main lodge, but I can't speak to that. I would never recommend this place. It was highly strange and disturbing. Please book a normal hotel. This wasn't the cute forest escape I expected.

The deck was a great place to watch the sunset, and you can also book carriage rides on the property with Buckaroos. This is a dog friendly spot with reasonable rates and a really nice breakfast spread. The host was very accommodating. It's fairly remote, with great views in every direction, so it's a perfect place for a relaxing mountain getaway.

It's a beautiful property and the food was great, but I would never suggest staying here. The cabin closest to the road was filthy. The washer had mildew, the comforters seemed never to have been washed, and there was dirt everywhere, including on the beds. The fridge was dirty too. You'll sneeze and feel sick. The owner was kind of rude, and when we asked her to fix something, she was really mean about it. Her dogs are scary and come charging at you while she yells at them to stop.
