Vista Grande Resort

The nightly price is at a Four Seasons level, which gave me pause as I looked around what used to be called a resort. The two pools were stained and decayed, with old-style plaster that made me wonder whether asbestos might be present and pose a health risk to guests. The place stands like an old deck of cards in a desert-chic neighborhood, stuck in a bygone era. Inside, it felt like an old Munsters TV set, with paper-thin walls that meant you couldn’t help hearing other people’s conversations.

We had such a good time at this lush, beautiful resort. The facilities were excellent, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. Thanks, everyone. We’ll be back!

The airport is very close, but the bus only comes once an hour, so don’t count on it. The chef makes breakfast fresh every morning and offers several choices. All but one of the pools are heated, and there are misters around the grounds to take the edge off the desert heat. The owners are doing a good job updating the rooms, and the staff are very friendly. I’d like to come back next time I’m here.

I’d hoped to use The Atrium resort during my stay, as I had for years, and the front desk employee told me I would have access. That turned out not to be true. The room also had a fridge handle that was a bit loose, and an imitation tree in the bedroom that was so flimsy it started falling apart, with no way to save it. I was charged a Resort Use Fee after a four-night stay, too. It’s a funny way to encourage me to return after I drove across two states to get there. Looking back, the experience needed some editing.
