Getting our stored belongings back after checkout took repeated requests, since several items were forgotten. Housekeeping also stopped altogether on the third day after servicing the first two, and we had trouble getting enough towels and washcloths. The breakfast we paid for was a letdown. For about $20 I got eggs, bacon, toast, and hashbrowns, then paid another $4 for coffee and orange juice. The poached eggs were nearly raw, bacon was undercooked, toast barely browned, and the potatoes were soft. When I brought it up, all I got was, “That’s just Vegas.” Basic extras aren’t included either, with no free breakfast or coffee, and even snacks and drinks cost a lot, like $5 for soda or a small bag of chips. The elevators were painfully slow, too. The stay felt pretty average and disappointing for the price. It wasn’t terrible, but the service and convenience weren’t what we expected for what we paid.

I was in Las Vegas for CES this year and managed to book a room close to the event dates, which can be tough. DoubleTree by Hilton Las Vegas East Flamingo worked out well for a business trip. The rooms were clean, quiet, and comfortable, and after long days on the show floor it was nice to come back somewhere calm and well run. Getting to both the Strip and the Las Vegas Convention Center was a reasonably short commute. Mornings were straightforward, and arranging rideshares was easy. Staff were consistently friendly and helpful from check-in on. It isn’t a resort, but it was a dependable, comfortable place to stay without fuss. For the location and price, the balance felt right. I’d recommend it to people visiting for work, conferences, or conventions.

I usually stay at the Hilton Homewood Suites, but couldn’t get a room there that night and figured this would be a good substitute. I wish I’d paid more for another Hilton. The supposed in-room dining is actually fast casual pickup, and you have to order in person and wait. For a business stay, UberEats would be quicker. The room was small, and the AC was so loud it made resting difficult. The maintenance team left a tube of caulk on the shower towel rack, and neither they nor housekeeping caught it. The afternoon front desk staff wouldn’t answer the phone. One elevator was broken and the other very slow. Reviews show the elevator has apparently been broken for a year. Getting off on floor 5, there was a backed-up toilet smell. Choose a different Hilton, even if it costs more. I wish I had.

Everyone I spoke with was friendly, and the room was clean. The restaurant attached to the hotel had good breakfast and late-night choices, and I liked the large TV. They’d even set up the room thoughtfully, with a folded towel and tissue in the box. The bed was much firmer than I’m used to, and so were the towels. Only the sheer blinds closed, which wasn’t great for privacy or keeping city lights out. The wall-mounted pump bottles for body wash, shampoo, and conditioner seem like a better way to cut down on plastic than little bottles, but mine was empty. Once, after housekeeping had been through, the bathroom floor felt sticky, even though I hadn’t eaten in the room. The location was fine for me, with a really delicious Thai restaurant across the street and the convention center a short Uber ride away. Still, that ride was just long enough to get annoying, so I’d want to stay closer to the convention center next time.

It’s only a 15-20 minute walk to the sphere, which was great. But just one elevator was working, and every time we tried to get on it the wait was ridiculously long and it was crowded. I’d have liked a stairway by the elevator as another way to get around, instead of having to walk to either end of the hallway. Around 10 a.m., I moved my car outside the property and had to use my key card to get into the lobby for checkout. The lobby should be open to people coming and going in daylight.
