Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Parsippany

The room had been remodeled and looked very nice. Check-in staff were friendly and helpful, and the continental breakfast was tasty, a nice way to start the day. I’d definitely stay here again.

I stayed in late October while the hotel was being renovated, and the place felt like it. The room was fine, breakfast was decent, and the bed disappointed a bit. Staff were okay, nothing more. There was some obvious wear and tear, though they were renovating. Nothing was especially wrong, but nothing stood out as good either, apart from being decent value compared with other options. I neither liked nor disliked the stay. I’d return if the better choices were unavailable.

The room and location were acceptable, and breakfast was average, but the overall stay was disappointing. The hotel is old, in poor shape, and much of it is under construction. I’m a Marriott Platinum Elite member, but nobody acknowledged my Rewards level. I asked for daily housekeeping at check-in, yet my room was skipped two days in a row. When I brought it up, the front desk said I had to request service in advance every day, which no one had told me when I arrived. I had no fresh towels or coffee unless I went to the desk to ask. The only coffee pods in the room were decaf, too. There was also just one slow elevator, which often meant delays. I’m in the area often for work, but I’ll avoid this Fairfield Inn in Parsippany, NJ in the future.

In room 224, we had no problem with the parking, neighborhood, breakfast, service, or room size. The bathroom is why I gave it one star. There’s no counter by the tiny sink, so toiletries have to go on the floor. There’s no exhaust fan either, which means toilet odors linger for an hour or more after someone uses it. Add a bathroom vanity drawer and exhaust fan, and I’d change my rating to five stars.
