Sheraton Columbia Downtown Hotel

The room was tiny, with a full-length mirror blocked by a table so you couldn't even stand in front of it. At night the temperature was set to 68, but we woke up sweating at 1 am. Pipes in the bathroom were extremely loud for a long time, both during showers and when flushing. The shower was slippery. The TV didn't work, and nobody responded when I called down. They said maintenance would come, but no one did. The hair dryer didn't work either. I asked for a replacement at 8:30 am, called again at 2:30 pm when it still hadn't arrived, then called three times the second day. I never got another one. Kids were running and screaming in the halls at 1:30 am, so we called to report it. Hotels can't control kids, but someone did come up and quiet them. We'd stayed at several hotels in Columbia and wanted to try this one. Now we know why the ratings are low. We won't be back.

The hotel was comfortable, nicely furnished, clean, and the staff were pretty friendly. Food at the rooftop bar was good, but it took forever to arrive. We also had to ask for extra towels because some of the ones we were given had big stains and we couldn't tell if they were clean. They probably were, but should've been tossed or reused for something else. It's a nice spot for Saturday mornings and the farmers market, but the walk from the parking garage felt sketchy and was a slog with bags, so plan on paying for valet. The elevators and room aren't sized for people with strollers, and the floors creaked so badly that it was basically impossible to move around without waking the baby. I never would've thought of that ahead of time, and it may just be part of staying in an older hotel. Nice place, but skip it with little ones. Decent overall, though we're unlikely to choose it again.

The beds were comfortable, the water pressure was great, and everything felt very clean. The location couldn’t be beat, and every staff member was wonderful and went out of their way to help. I had an amazing stay. What more could you want?

The bartender was nice, but we only stayed about five minutes before deciding to go elsewhere. The floor felt oddly warped in places, and it was so dark that we had to use our phone lights to read the menu. There were only three lights on. I hadn’t been to the rooftop bar in a few years, and it’s sad to see how much it’s gone downhill. It used to be a great place with a nice city view, but now it’s enclosed in what looks like a makeshift glass and metal frame. It needs major renovations before it can be a prime attraction again. I can only speak to the bar, and my opinion is that it’s terrible.
