Hampton Inn Parsippany

I’ve stayed in hotels all over the world, for a night or sometimes a week, and this one is decent. It’s tucked away and felt safe, and the breakfast runs from 6 to 10 with both big and mini waffle makers. The building is a bit old, but really clean, and it feels like it has good bones. If you need a place to get off the road, it’ll do.

The clean sheets and bedding were a relief, but the rest of this stay was awful. The room felt damp and intensely musty, and the whole building smelled as though it had been sitting in dirty water. The hallways were bad, and the room was worse. The AC smelled unpleasant and was extremely loud. With it off, the room became hot and suffocating. I had heart palpitations, chest tightness, coughing fits, a headache, ringing in my ears, and a heavy, inflamed feeling through the night. I can’t say what caused it, but the air felt very poor. We’re already dealing with confirmed hidden mold in our rental condo, which has made my children and me very sick. My fiancé booked this hotel to get us out of that environment. Two nights earlier, we stayed at another Hampton Inn and felt noticeably better in its fresh room and clean air. The difference here was shocking. Cleanliness was below average. Surfaces felt sticky and filmy, with unexplained marks on the lamp, in the bathroom, and elsewhere. The parking lot was crowded with construction and utility trucks, leaving little room for guests. Families facing mold illness may already be displaced, losing belongings, and dealing with serious health problems. Safe, clean spaces matter. This stay made our symptoms worse, kept us awake struggling to breathe, and set us back during an already devastating time. I strongly urge management to address the moisture and air quality issues. For people with asthma, allergies, mold sensitivity, chronic illness, or other health concerns, I don’t consider this a safe place to stay.

We did enjoy being able to use the bar attached to the adjacent Hilton for a drink and dessert. Sleep was another matter. Our room was next to the stairs, and with the elevators being slow, it seemed like lots of people took the stairs between the first and second floors. The foot traffic kept going until 11 pm and started again around 6 am, so we couldn’t sleep in as we’d planned.

I misplaced something important during my stay, and Guillermo personally helped me get it back. He retraced my steps, checked with housekeeping, and kept following up until it turned up. His kindness, professionalism, and sense of responsibility really stood out. That help put a lovely finish on my stay, and I’m very grateful. I’ll definitely be returning, both for the beautiful property and for staff like Guillermo.
