Econo Lodge Paw Paw

I'd stayed here before without any trouble, so I didn't expect this. My third-party booking profile says I have a service animal, and the Econolodge in Paw Paw, MI website says service animals are welcome and stay free. I paid a $25 deposit, but when I asked for it back at checkout, I was told it wouldn't be returned because I'd “hidden” my dog. I absolutely hadn't. My Econolodge booking receipt clearly lists my service animal under detailed instructions/special requests. The older man working refused to discuss it, pointed to a sign about the pet policy, and told me to leave at once. After I left, I called to try to talk it through, but the person who answered hung up on me both times. I'm handicapped, and I don't understand why he chose to make an example of me. I'm upset at how he treated me and won't accept being treated badly because of my disability. I'll contact the ADA to report this non-compliance issue and pursue legal action if needed.

Those two stars are only because I could bring my dog. Otherwise, this place is horrid, and it seems to be taking advantage of that. I've tried, but I will never come back, no matter what my friend needs to do in town or how close the hotel is to anything. I'll drive farther to avoid it. The linen is always stained, and the white towels are dingy and stained too. On my last two visits I had to sleep with bugs. This time the linen was stained again, there was no cable or even analog TV, no Wi-Fi, and the tub was dirty yet again. I'm done with this nasty place.

The room was clean and well stocked, and the staff were kind. The property was clean and well lit, and as a woman traveling alone I felt safe. The hospitality was superb, especially for an economy hotel.

I stayed here again on the way to Chicago and enjoyed how peaceful and quiet it was. My room was spacious, tidy, and everything was in its place. It seems the hotel may be under new management. Service felt friendlier and much quicker than it used to.
