Pelican Inn

We've stayed there about five times and enjoyed every visit. The owners have been friendly, and the fact that we keep coming back says a lot. I’m surprised by reviews calling the owner rude. I suspect those people may be from the same group with some kind of grievance. That's only one side of the story.

The owner cooks such delicious food every day, and the service is fantastic. The place is beautiful, the room is nice, and everyone creates a friendly, accommodating atmosphere. If you're looking for a week of relaxation, this is an A+ spot.

We didn't stay at the inn. My husband, mom, our three young kids, and I parked across the street to watch the Fourth of July Parade. The owner came over and said we couldn't park there because he wanted the spaces for hotel guests, even though about five spots were empty and there were no signs saying it was private property or that parking wasn't allowed. He came over three times to hassle us while we were just sitting with the children across from his inn. Like other reviews have said, I found the owner really rude.

We come back to the Pelican Inn every summer. The stunning beach is a big part of it, along with the wonderful setting between the beach and the marsh. The building dates from the mid-1800s and has a lovely position. The room price covers breakfast and lunch, and the food is tops, served family style. Those meals are one of the main reasons we love staying here. The cool, beautiful porches make it easy to meet other guests, whether families or others, and everyone ends up feeling like friends. The place is informal and deliberately a little shabby, which suits its comfortable, relaxed feel.
