We only wanted one quiet night, so we booked a few days before V-Day. Instead, the hallways smelled like smoke, the elevator dropped hard and opened back on the first floor, and we had to walk up to our room. The room hadn’t been cleaned properly: there was hair under the covers and an earring on the couch. I showed the front desk woman pictures. She was nice and said the hold would come off after midnight because it still had to process. We stayed maybe 10 minutes, couldn’t believe what we were seeing, and went to the Avalon. A day or two later the GM called and said they couldn’t remove the charge because the GM hadn’t seen the picture. Smh.

The service and staff communication really let us down on my birthday weekend. I stayed three nights, and my fiancé and I were told lunch and dinner would be available, but when we got back, we found out they were closed for one of our nights. That was disheartening on a birthday trip. The room was clean and the hotel itself was nice, but the $150 deposit brought the total to 360.00, which I was unhappy about. If places inside the hotel can’t operate properly because they’re short staffed, I feel guests should get some consideration, maybe a smaller deposit or something beyond the quick snacks and food up front. I’m very disappointed. I’d call it a 5 out of 10, even though my first reaction was 1 out of 10.

James at the front desk handled a small reservation hiccup really smoothly and professionally when we arrived. That made our stay and weekend fun and memorable. I’d recommend this place if you need somewhere to stay in Duluth.

The room was clean, but it felt very dated, and there wasn’t a microwave. The blow dryer wouldn’t stay plugged into the outlet. The bathroom light shut off by itself whenever I showered, then came on randomly while I was sleeping. The AC also shut off around 1am or so, no matter how low I set it, and I couldn’t get it running again until I left. It got uncomfortably hot, to the point where I was sweating. I hated that and won’t be back.
