Super 8 Pekin/Peoria Area

The owner was very kind and didn’t charge us for arriving early, even though we’d signed up for early arrival but ended up getting there after 4:30 p.m. There was some loud noise now and then until around midnight on Saturday, but I can’t really complain about that. It’s a Super 8, so you get what you pay for: the rooms were maintained, and the cleanliness was what I’d expect from an economy hotel. It had the usual Super 8 feel, including a smell from the smoking rooms, and weed is legal in this state.

The TV didn’t work, and the hair dryer had been broken off the wall. With the way things were, I’m surprised they didn’t try to charge us for that too. But the worst part was how the staff treated us. We stayed partly for the pool, but there were no towels there in winter. When we asked for more, a worker decided we were stealing them and came into our room to count. Every towel was accounted for, and we hadn’t taken any. I travel a lot, and this was the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at. The front desk staff were very rude. My disabled friend was left terrified and crying afterward. If you have disabilities, don’t use this hotel.

There were bags of trash sitting in the hallway for a day, and the outdoor bin had overflowed for over a day. I went up to ask for a trash bag after changing it myself, and the woman argued that her housekeeper had already done it. The owners live on the property, too. There’s also a dog that barks and scratches at the door trying to get out, and it’s VERY loud. The owners at the front desk were VERY rude when we checked in. They kept telling paying guests how quiet the hotel was, but their kids were playing with Nerf guns in the hall at 10:30 p.m. Kids will be kids, but the owners weren’t quiet themselves. At breakfast they watch to see whether you take anything back to your room, and they watched my 15-year-old son in the pool even though he’d only been swimming for 30 minutes. If you just need somewhere to sleep and don’t care how you’re treated, it’s not the worst place. I contacted management multiple times, but nothing was done and there wasn’t even a sincere apology. They have guests’ contact information and should reach out to make things right when they’ve messed up.

I was there for about five minutes, then turned in my room key and left. Afterward I called to ask for a refund and got transferred straight to a robot. I thought it had handled it, but I was still charged. I’d still like a refund for a room I never used.
