Sabine Yacht & Racquet #8D by Southern Vacation Rentals

We’ve been coming to Pensacola Beach two or three times a year for 14 years, and our stays had always been lovely until this one at Sabine Yacht & Racquet Club. We added two nights to our vacation and booked Unit 1B through Southern Vacation Rentals. The place looked beautiful on arrival, with an amazing bay view, but we couldn’t check in early because we were told the cleaning crew was there until 4 PM. We’d planned to cook and eat on the balcony. After getting into the unit on the 11th, we found a smashed dead cockroach on the kitchen floor under the garbage can. The next morning there were cockroaches in the coffee pot, crawling around the garbage bag and can, and a live one in the hall outside the bedroom. There was a pest repellent plugged into the kitchen, so I assume the owners knew about the bugs. We were grossed out and didn’t cook or use any dishes or utensils. We took out all the trash, but the can itself was filthy, with old food in the lid. It was hard to sleep because I worried they’d get into the bed. There was also black mold on the bathroom ceiling and under the shower seat. We contacted management, and all they offered was a $50 good faith refund on a stay that cost over $600 for two nights. They offered no other help or solution, so we checked out early. I wish we hadn’t wasted the money; extending our trip turned into a disaster. Be careful booking here. I can’t know whether the cockroaches are limited to Unit 1B. It’s a beautiful place in a beautiful location with a great view, but the management and cleaning were poor.

If you lock yourself out, management won’t help, so don’t forget your key. After midnight, the emergency line just goes to voicemail.

I’m part of a local veterans’ organization and contacted Sabine yacht and racquet club about an upcoming project. After I introduced myself, the man on the phone said, “I’m off today. Call back tomorrow,” then immediately hung up. I didn’t expect a business in a community with such a proud military history to show veterans such disregard.

Katie and Stephanie were quick to respond, and check-in went smoothly. The condo was very clean, matched the pictures exactly, and had an amazing view.
