Villas on the Gulf by Southern Vacation Rentals

Our stay in unit C6 through Vrbo was a nightmare because of bed bugs. We woke up being bitten by adult bugs, which suggests they’d been present for at least a month before reaching that stage. We wondered if they were living in the pillows. We had to spend a vacation day throwing away everything we’d brought or bought, replace our clothes, and find emergency lodging elsewhere at a higher price. The worry about being bitten or carrying bugs home was awful. The host offered only a partial refund. Even before we found the bugs, the floors were so dirty that the bottoms of our feet turned black. The Brita pitcher in the fridge had no filter. The listing’s “steps from the beach” and “waterfront” descriptions felt misleading since we had to walk about half a mile each way to reach the beach. There’s no elevator, and parts of the stairs felt sketchy. The pool was small, lots of kids were loud, and some adults in the pool area smoked.
