After driving 14 hours from Florida, I arrived alone, tired, and hungry to a dreary, nearly empty, run-down place. I only wanted a safe, clean, reasonably maintained motel, not anything luxurious. After checking in, I went to find food and mentioned my concerns about the place to a restaurant employee, who told me some disturbing things about the motel. I returned to ask for a refund, but was told I wasn't eligible because of a "15 minute rule" and that the time had passed. I've traveled a lot, alone and with my husband and sons, and never heard of this rule at any other motel. Nobody warned me about it here. I disputed the charge through American Express, but the owner claimed they had moved guests out of the room to accommodate me, which made no sense because the property looked half empty. Howard Johnson used to have a good reputation, but I would never stay at one of these motels again and would warn others away.

The bed sheets seemed like they hadn't been changed, and I couldn't bring myself to touch the coffee maker. The bathroom was horrific, with a moldy ceiling and a filthy tub and toilet. I don't understand how this Inn is still open. The owners seem to think this is an acceptable place to spend the night. The BBB should visit. They ought to rebuild the place after the roaches have found another home.
The place smelled awful, and the first room had a beer carton taped over a hole in the shower wall and what looked like blood on the shower curtain. They wouldn't refund us, just gave us another room. The tub in that room wouldn't drain and the ceiling had mold. Nothing worked, the fridge shelves were missing, and the door had to be kicked shut. There were stains on the floor, sofa, and bedspread. Breakfast was a sorry excuse: cereal with no milk, two bananas, and something that looked like coffee. Don't spend your money here. You'd be safer and better off sleeping in your car. I've stayed in hotels around the country, and this was by far the worst. The whole building should be condemned.
Please don't waste your money here. The parking lot was empty when I arrived, and the lobby looked run down. I tried to stay optimistic because my family only needed one night, but the room changed that quickly. My wife and I grabbed the kids and went straight back to the car. It's hard to list everything wrong, but it simply didn't feel safe. We called the clerk while driving to another hotel to say we were checking out.
We pulled off the highway on our drive back to New England from a family trip in FL. We asked for a large room and were offered a suite, but had to inspect it first to see whether the ceiling leaked. It smelled strongly of mildew and mold, the mattress was falling apart, the door wouldn't lock, and the pullout bed had no sheets. We demanded our money back and took the kids right back out. We weren't there even five minutes. It was disgusting and completely unsanitary. How is this place still open?
