Tru by Hilton Pflugerville, TX

The rooms were clean and the AC worked great during our four-night stay. My main issue came at breakfast one morning. An older woman stepped off the elevator with her dog and went straight to the food area to serve herself, still holding the dog. The young employee there walked away when I looked to her for help, so I told another worker, who asked the woman to leave the area with her dog. I also mentioned it to the front desk at checkout. A pet-friendly hotel still needs to make clear that pets aren't allowed in every area, and staff should be trained on that.

Ms. Shirley really made our visit more enjoyable. She always went above and beyond. The whole place, from the grounds to the rooms, was immaculate, and the staff were friendly, helpful, and accommodating. We stayed five nights and were completely satisfied. Breakfast was delicious, with a changing menu that kept us happy each morning.

There are shops and places to eat nearby, and the hotel has plenty of room in the lobby and outdoor areas. The atmosphere felt warm, with nice Christmas decorations, and everything was clean. The room was small, though, and while the linens were good quality, the bed was much too hard for me. The wall AC and heat unit was loud. One morning, repair work started early enough to wake us up.

The Hilton app worked as it should, and I loved being able to unlock the room with my phone. The staff were pleasant, and the hotel was nice all around. Best of all, this was the best free hotel breakfast I've had, at least in the last 5-10 years. Hilton also allows pets now, I think. I remember there being a no-pets policy when the hotel first opened. We used to stay at Hyatt Place in Round Rock when visiting family in Pflugerville, but it was looking a little worn on our last visit in 2023. We'll stay here from now on. Chalk it up to capitalism: Hilton is competing and winning with better breakfast and pets allowed.
