Loews Philadelphia Hotel

We were upgraded to a corner room over Christmas, with windows on two sides and even one in the bathroom. That's surprisingly unusual for a city hotel. The view wasn't perfect, but it was still very nice. The location made it easy to walk around Center City, and the service was friendly. Breakfast at Bank & Bourbon downstairs was delicious. We had Eggs Benedict both mornings, especially enjoying the crispy potato skins. A couple of maintenance issues held it back from a full five stars. The toilet tank wouldn't refill unless we nudged the float ball, so we kept taking the lid off and setting it on the floor. One sheet was torn too. We didn't ask for another room because we'd unpacked and neither issue seemed worth bothering the front desk over the holiday. We had a pleasant stay and would return. A little more attention to room upkeep would make it a five-star experience.

The staff at the Philadelphia Loews Hotel always make us feel welcome, from check-in through checkout, and are so accommodating. The rooms and hotel are clean, and the beds are comfortable. It's a perfect place to stay for an event at the convention center.

I was surprised by the high rating. The lobby felt underwhelming, the floors were laid out like a maze, and it was confusing to find my way around. I booked a king but was told only double beds were available. The elevators were very slow and barely seemed to work. At best, it's a very average hotel. I probably wouldn't stay again.

The hotel itself is nice, but what happened there was deeply upsetting and left us feeling unsafe and discriminated against. My friend and I were visiting Philadelphia for a Mariah the Scientist concert. We checked in around 4:30 PM and were given a room on the 23rd floor, as we'd specifically requested a higher floor. Soon after arriving, before we left for the concert, our TV was at volume 15. At about 5:30 or 6, security officer Jamal came to our door and said there had been several noise complaints. We were confused because we'd only just arrived and weren't being loud. When we calmly asked what the complaints were about, his attitude changed once he saw there were just two women in the room. He became aggressive and disrespectful. He said we had to move because there were “all white judges on our floor and they weren’t tolerating us.” He claimed he was “trying to help us because we are Black,” but that we were making things harder than necessary. He also said if another security officer came up, he would “send a white man” who would remove us from the hotel right away. We were from out of town and had no easy way home, so we felt pressured into agreeing to move. Instead of another high floor, they moved us from the 23rd down to the 9th, despite our request and the room we'd already been given at check-in. We came back from the concert around 11:30 PM, but left at 4:00 AM rather than stay the rest of our reservation. We didn't feel welcomed or respected. Nobody should be threatened or singled out after paying the same as everyone else. The whole experience was unacceptable.
