Renaissance Properties - 21 & Chestnut

On our second night, at 11:30 PM, a stranger woke us by entering the apartment with the same main door code and apartment keypad we had been given. There was no safety lock, and the latch was broken. He said he'd booked the same apartment online and received the same entry details, so he thought he had been scammed too. My friend was asleep on the couch and was badly shaken by a stranger coming in. The man apologized repeatedly and left. We were left wondering what might have happened if someone had walked in while we were at work and taken our things. I booked through Hotwire, where it was listed as a 3-star hotel. The photos looked nice and showed a spacious place. I had stayed in this building at a friend's apartment two months earlier and knew its basic layout, so I was okay with it, even though taxes and fees made the cost 50% more than the stated price. Two hours after booking, someone called Henry Friedman apologized and said that apartment wasn't available. He offered another one about a block and a half away, saying it was a bigger, newer property. With the trip coming up, I accepted. But when I arrived at night, it was only about a quarter the size of the basic apartments at the original address, with a tiny bedroom, living room, and bathroom. It looked like an apartment converted for Airbnb but advertised as a hotel. I felt we'd been scammed. Maybe they don't even have a place at the first address and use fake photos and an address to draw people in, then send them elsewhere under some pretext. The new address was 2135 WALNUT STREET, APT 301.
