The Gas Lamp Hotel's front area becomes a pop-up gallery during Philly First Fridays, which is a fun way to use the space. We stopped in while making the First Friday rounds. The show leaned toward pop art, with bright colors, bold graphics, and pieces mixing humor with commentary. Some works had sharp messages that felt connected to the current cultural moment. Every gallery has its own style and artists. It was absolutely packed, so my friend and I didn't stay long. There were quite a few tables with leftover food and half-finished beers still sitting out, which made things feel a little messy. Maybe the turnout was bigger than expected. Still, it was cool to see the hotel take part and turn the space into a gallery for the night. Worth a pop-in if you're already out for First Friday.
Getting inside took some back and forth: the codes we were given didn't work, and we had to request several new ones. The quick, helpful email replies were reassuring, though, and we were in within 30 minutes with no more code trouble. Our road-facing room was a bit noisy, but not too bad. The historic building in the old city is convenient for sightseeing, and the rooms and decor are beautiful. Everything we needed was provided, and the place feels luxurious and glamorous.
The Edison suite gave our family room to spread out, and we could relax, walk all over Philly, then come back to relax again, get carryout, or make food. It was a perfect mix of short-term rental space and hotel service. The beds were comfy, my kids loved the bunk bed, and the towels were fluffy. I appreciated the little touches too, like the frame TV and Nespresso coffee, so much better than Keurig. Really, I have nothing negative to say. We'd 100% stay again.
We loved our room so much that we hurried back from our outing just to relax in it. We plan to return and try the room with the bathtub, which was booked this time. The boutique is absolutely stunning, with a city feel and old-world charm, and there's easy parking. Shops, museums, Betsy Ross house, and great Philly restaurants and cafes are all within walking distance. It was just what we wanted instead of a busy hotel full of people. I saw an event being held, and the grounds are beautiful and spacious. I'll keep this place in mind for holiday parties and when family comes to town.
The Edison suite was clean and had every comfort thought of. My teenage children and I all loved the look of it. We could gather in the living room to play board games, talk, or share a home-cooked meal, which we wouldn't have had at a hotel. The Gas Lamp Hotel is in Old City, where we walked to plenty of historical sites, including some on our block. There's plenty to do nearby, but I liked that the neighborhood was quiet too. We made fantastic memories and would definitely visit again.
