Comfort Inn I-10 West at 51st Ave

We paid $113 with taxes, which feels wildly out of line for a place I’d value at $50 or less. The condition was awful: filthy carpet lifting in spots, a loose sink faucet, and a ceiling that still looked unfinished after a leak. The pool wasn’t heated, and the hot tub was ice cold and looked like it needed cleaning. The fitness machines didn’t work, the elliptical was falling apart, and an outlet there was hanging loose with exposed wires, a serious fire hazard. The location was horrible, too. My husband and I travel all over the US and choose hotels based on budget and reviews, so we’re not hotel snobs. I can’t understand the good ratings unless workers or their friends and family wrote them. I should’ve listened to the negative reviews because they were right. This place needs to close and be completely renovated. Stay away.

We left with a broken toilet situation and a bad enough experience that I may start avoiding Choice hotels. The first room had a rotten floor by the AC that felt like it might give way, plus a TV remote that didn’t work. In the second room the floor was still a problem, though not as bad, and at least the TV worked. Then we found the toilet wouldn’t flush, and it clearly wasn’t the only one. There was a line for the toilet in the workout area. Before booking, I asked whether the website’s pool and hot tub were really heated and whether there was an indoor pool. I was told yes, but neither was heated, both looked in poor condition, and there was no indoor pool. I was also told I could use my Choice points at check-in, then was told I had to add them when making the reservation and couldn’t do it there. I won’t return.

The neighborhood felt a little sketchy, but we had no problems during the stay. The hotel itself was fine, with clean rooms and beds. I’ve stayed in much worse. It’s not a luxury resort.

The front desk staff switched me to another room right away, without any hassle or argument, and I appreciated that. Still, the property was so run-down and neglected that I won’t stay again. There were missing floorboards that seemed unsafe, everything looked worn, and the place felt dirty. The first room hadn’t been cleaned at all and still had trash from the previous guest. It’s honestly shocking to see such high ratings online.
