Sonder Ida Apartments Downtown

There are coffee shops, little mom-and-pop restaurants, and a brewery close by, and the walk to the convention center felt safe and took about 10 minutes. We’d absolutely stay again. Sonder Ida was a cool experience, with finished interiors in the shipping-container units. The layout felt spacious, the insulation was good, and the AC reached the whole space. The bed was incredibly comfortable, though I couldn’t find out what mattress it was because it was hermetically sealed. We heard some noise later in the week from the popular bar next door, but we didn’t visit it.

It was a clean, spacious apartment in a great spot, close to restaurants and gyms. There was a living and dining room, laundry room, kitchen, one bedroom, and a bathroom. I recommend it!

The free earplugs were about the only help we got. For six hours, people outside screamed obscenities and banged large rocks against the metal doors. Someone defecated on our doorstep, and there was a loud party with people throwing things down the stairs. We couldn’t get a response from Sonder. The police were busy with a bloody knife fight in front of the apartments, so there was no help there. This was absolutely not restful, and we didn’t feel safe. A bit of local nightlife noise, as mentioned in other reviews, would have been acceptable.

The price was lower than the hotels, and it was a 12-minute walk to the convention center. I could only find one place nearby for early coffee, though, and most of the restaurants open at 8 a.m. At night, downtown Phoenix was a little rowdy, and I wished the apartment had better insulation against party noise. I noticed a sleep unit in the closet that might work for some people. The shipping-container building was nicely finished, and the apartment had a good amount of space, with a living room, table and chairs, full kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. There was closet space for hanging clothes, but no dresser, so I lived out of my suitcase. The bathroom also needed more counter or storage space.
