The front desk staff were so kind and made me feel at home. I’d planned to stay one night and then switch hotels, but their genuine help convinced me to extend for two more days. It’s not the best hotel ever, but I felt welcome the whole time and would gladly stay again.

I checked into the TownePlace Suites by Marriott Phoenix North at 9425 N. Black Canyon Highway, Phoenix, AZ with my wife, and we immediately smelled mildew. When I checked the air-conditioning vents, I found black mold. We asked for another room. I inspected the first option and found mold there too, so we moved to the third. After about 30 seconds, we could still smell mildew. I found mold in all three rooms offered. I called the titanium elite reservations line and quickly booked at a Fairfield Inn instead, though it cost 83,000 points compared with the 48,000 points I’d used for two nights at TownePlace. After contacting the hotel manager and assistant manager, I got the original 48,000 points back as well as the difference in points between the Fairfield and TownePlace rooms. The third room’s bathroom ceiling clearly had mold, as shown in the photo I took. While waiting at the front desk to check out, I also took a photo of the lobby ceiling. That should have been my first sign the place was disgusting. This property needs a major overhaul and gutting. I don’t care how cheap it is, nobody should stay here. As a titanium member for 17 years, this was the worst property I’ve ever booked, 100%. Marriott Corp. needs to look into it themselves. Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Phoenix West/Tolleson at 9033 West McDowell Road, Tolleson, AZ was a great place to stay in the Glendale Arizona area.

I rarely write reviews because my stays at well-known brands like Marriott are usually good, but this hotel has made me think carefully about my choices. The mold and marijuana smells were unpleasant, and I was worried about my children’s safety. My kids developed a bad cough and hardly slept. We also found hair on the shampoo bottles before anyone used the bathroom, and the TV wasn’t working. We’d booked two nights but left after one. I hope Marriott’s higher-ups pay closer attention if they intend to keep this hotel. I wouldn’t return unless serious changes are made.

The receptionist was rude and completely blank-faced when I arrived, and she answered a phone call while checking me in. The first-floor hallway smelled like wet dog, while room 203 had a strong cat pee odor. I’ve never had this kind of experience at a Marriott. If I hadn’t needed an emergency stay, I wouldn’t have stayed. I honestly don’t know how this place is still open.

There was no hot water for a shower, and when I asked for help, the front desk attendant was dismissive and unhelpful. There wasn’t even a full-length mirror in the room. Breakfast was skimpy, with no yogurt or bacon and few choices. At check-in, they also didn’t mention the daily parking fee. I’m not sure why they charge for parking when there was plenty of space in the area. The elevator took forever, and there’s only one for the whole building. The hotel felt dusty and dirty, with a musty smell from the air conditioner, and badly needs upkeep and renovation. There was no bottled water available, either for free or to buy. This TownePlace Suites falls far below what I expect from Marriott, and the service was disappointing for a hospitality brand. If you’re staying nearby, book the SpringHill Suites or Courtyard instead. They can’t possibly be worse.
