Travelodge by Wyndham Phoenix Downtown

For a clean, comfortable room at a reasonable rate near downtown Phoenix, this is a good choice. The property is older but the staff keep it up well. Some rooms are small, though they have a microwave, refrigerator, and television, and the beds are very comfortable and clean. There’s a small room off the front lobby where they serve continental breakfast each morning. I’ve had the pleasure of dealing with Theresa or Mike at the front desk, which is open 24 hours a day.

We didn’t stay the night after seeing the room. It was filthy in person, even worse than the pictures, and someone needs to call the health department. The carpet was meant to be light brown but was black from traffic, with a clean patch under the furniture that showed how light it should’ve been. The walls looked like they’d never been wiped and were coming apart. There was dried something on the toilet seat, the bathroom floor hadn’t even been swept, and the only hand towel was crusty. The TV remote was dirty too. The bathroom, carpet, and walls were disgusting, and the nonsmoking room reeked of smoke. The mattresses looked like they’d been dragged in and thrown on the bed. I won’t even get into what the laundry facilities they use for the sheets looked like. If I could give negative stars, I would. Don’t go near this place.

The front desk staff member was nice and tried to find me a first-floor room, but it wasn’t clean. The room was small, outdated, smelled bad, and the heater didn’t work. The TV remote was broken too. I’d been driving all day, and by the time I’d walked to the first room and climbed the stairs to the second, I was too tired to leave. I could have been given a better room since they weren’t booked. For the $100 I spent during spring training, this was the worst way to spend it. Every room was overpriced, but this one was especially bad. I should’ve tried the Super 8 down the street. Buyers’ remorse.

The outside looked fine, but the room was horrific. After ten days of camping I only wanted somewhere to sleep for one night. Instead, it was very dirty, with stained sheets and pillows, paint missing from the walls, mold in the bathroom, and a cracked, broken toilet. The shower was so filthy I felt cleaner skipping it. I guess you get what you pay for, but I wish I hadn’t spent almost $100 here. I should’ve learned my lesson about booking hotels online.
