Wyndham Garden Phoenix Midtown

My television had no service for all four days of my stay. Management knew, but couldn’t offer a satisfactory response. The WiFi worked, luckily, but sometimes you just want to channel surf on vacation. Things can happen, but making no effort to put it right for a paying guest isn’t acceptable. I won’t recommend this hotel, even though it has good potential because of its location near midtown and its staff once renovations are finished. The hotel is being renovated, with no amenities available, and you have to dig deep on its website to find that out. None of the other booking sites mention it either. I could live with the renovation itself: the room was clean, the stark lobby was clean, and the staff were friendly. I didn’t see much work happening, but noise wasn’t an issue. What bothered me was raising my concerns with management and getting no sign of concern. The man at the front desk seemed unsure what he was doing.

The only positive thing I can say is that it was quiet. I chose this hotel for two nights of training because it was the only place available on the dates I needed, but I should have taken that as a warning. It was dirty and rundown. Although the listing says breakfast is free, they only put out some granola bars and yogurt at room temperature. There’s no coffee, and the little pot in the room came with no condiments. When our key stopped working and locked us out, the staff seemed put out about making a replacement card. The outlets didn’t work, and neither did the thermostat. I definitely won’t stay here again.

The location is great, and the lobby was pleasant, with very nice staff. That’s why I’m giving it three stars. I stayed one night in December 2019, but wouldn’t return. Once I got to my floor, there was a hole in the ground partly hidden by a potted plant, maybe where an old ice machine had been. It was an unwelcoming sight. My room had an old dark carpet stain, grime on the walls, and furniture that was badly worn or broken. The showerhead was covered in calcium deposits, and the curtain was mostly torn and barely hanging. There were no plugs near the bed lights. The list goes on. I’ve stayed at Motel 6 properties that were as good or better. I was very disappointed.

We had a great stay and would love to come back. The hotel was being renovated, but the super friendly staff made up for any issues. They all seemed to enjoy their work, and there was never any noise. There’s a lovely little Italian restaurant just a short walk away.
