Super 8 Picayune

I'd requested a smoking room when I booked, and when I arrived I asked if it was downstairs. The smoking rooms were upstairs, but I'd spent all day moving and going up and down stairs. The front desk clerk kindly gave me a downstairs room instead. That was really nice of him.

I've stayed in about 100 hotel and motel rooms along the East Coast, from Houston, Texas, to Florida and South Carolina, and this was one of the worst and nastiest. We were so tired, and my husband was seeing cross-eyed after driving from Philadelphia to Houston, that we stayed anyway. It was so dirty I didn't even want to use the water to brush my teeth. The toilet leaned sideways in the floor and looked ready to fall through. I think we stayed about five hours, then left. If you can sleep in your car, you'd be better off.

I had to stop on the way home to New Orleans because severe thunderstorms and several wrecks had left us stuck on the interstate for hours. It was getting late, and we couldn't make it all the way home. The hotel was perfect for getting a good night's rest while the weather passed and the roads were safe again. The staff were very friendly, and the area felt peaceful and safe to me, with the local police station on the same road. I live nearby, so I don't know if I'll get another chance to stay, but if I'm ever in that kind of situation again, I'd stay here in a heartbeat.

I'm disabled and booked a month ahead, but they still gave me an upstairs room. The furniture was torn up and the place was nasty. This is a no-tell hotel.
