Econo Lodge

We’d already paid $500, or we would’ve gone somewhere else. The front desk staff were rude, didn’t care about our complaints, seemed lazy, and didn’t know where things were. I won’t stay at an Econo Lodge again. This one cost $124 a night, though a regular Econo Lodge is only $50, and paying that much in a tourist area didn’t make the filthy room okay. Our feet turned black within five minutes of walking on the floor, the tub was nasty, and the shower water wouldn’t drain. It came halfway up my shin and spilled onto the floor because the curtain wasn’t right. The pillowcases were stained, we saw a roach run across the floor, and housekeepers didn’t come clean or leave enough towels and wash rags. We had to request more, and also a plunger, which they didn’t have on hand, so we had to wait. The TV and WiFi only worked half the time. I shouldn’t have to keep my son off the floor to stop his feet getting dirty or worry about taking roaches home.

The bed was nice and soft, though there were a couple of small stains on the sheets. That’s about the only reason I’d give this place two stars. A cockroach showed up on the sink in the morning, and there was no breakfast. The TV had five channels, none of them working. You could see light above the door, and the walls did nothing to block sound. You get what you pay for, I guess. I wouldn’t return, though I’ve stayed in worse places.

Stay away. Our first room was dirty, so they moved us to a nice-looking one on the third floor. Then the lights started flickering on and off during the night and eventually went out completely. There’s a serious electrical issue in the wall behind the beds. I also saw photos of a room down the hall where mushrooms were growing out of the bathroom walls. Management wouldn’t move us, saying they were full, though they weren’t. Maintenance didn’t arrive until 11pm.

The woman at check-in was very nice, but neither room was okay. The first smelled like a skunk and looked as if it might still have someone’s stuff in it: a key card on the table, half a bag of popcorn by the microwave, half a cup of coffee, and an empty diaper box. We asked to switch, but the next room also smelled skunky. When we pulled down the sheets, there was a spider or some kind of black bug crawling on a pillow, and the beds were nasty. I was too grossed out to stay. My husband said the woman replied, “Well, it is a hotel,” when he returned the keys. Wouldn’t recommend.
