The Pineola

We booked at the last minute after deciding to arrive a day early for a ski trip, since everything around Beech/Sugar mountain was full. I’d put this at 4.5 stars: four feels low, and five feels a little generous. Our room was over the tap room, which could matter if you’re an early sleeper or sensitive to noise. It didn’t bother us. Booking was easy, the room was clean and a good size, the water pressure was nice, and the water got very hot. The sheets were spotless, the bed was neatly made, and the pillows were comfy. The mattress was a bit firm but still comfortable. The room had a nice feel, and staff were easy to reach by phone. There’s a tap room on site, plus a rec area with pickleball, basketball and cornhole beside the party deck, though it was too cold for us to use it. The shower head hits around armpit level. I’m 6.5’, so I’m used to that, and at least I got an unusually thorough wash. Under 5’2, you’ll be fine. The water control is also touchy: one setting is cold, then a tiny adjustment can make it scalding. The mini fridge, microwave stacked above it, and coffee maker on top of that felt a bit clumsy. An IKEA table or something similar in that corner would help. The owners clearly care. The price was reasonable, and the rooms are very clean. I’d stay again and recommend it to another young family. It’s not a fancy resort, but it feels like people put more care into the property than at a corporate travel motel.

I stayed in the tiny house and loved how cozy and private it felt. There’s pickleball, live music and a bar on site, and some really good hikes are about 20 minutes away. You can shape the trip however you like. Can’t wait to come back!

I was comfortable in my clean, warm studio, and The Pineola checked all the boxes for me. It had a full kitchen, washer and dryer, dishwasher, and a big flat screen smart television. I stayed for 10 nights between the first and third weeks of January 2026, and saw snow flurries twice. The Pineola is near Sugar Mountain Ski Resort and a short distance from Boone N.C. There’s also a tap room on the property with adult beverages. I’d recommend staying here, and I plan to book again for future winter vacations in the High Country.

For our weekend away, the room was lovely and just right for me and my girlfriend. The location, away from Sugar Mountain and Beech Mountain, worked perfectly, and the price was great. Staff at Pineola checked in with us each day and responded quickly whenever we had questions. I’d definitely stay again on our next ski trip.
