Hampton Inn & Suites Pittsburg Kansas Crossing

A fair price, and for my work trips to Pittsburg this is the best hotel in town. They offer discounts for the casino and restaurant at check-in. The place is very clean, and Wendy at the front desk was professional and very helpful.

The first floor smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, and the room could've been cleaner. The bed was only okay and the pillows were awful. In the morning I turned on the shower and waited three or four minutes, but the water stayed ice cold. I called the front desk on my cell because the phone by the bed didn't work. Maintenance wasn't in yet, so I asked to use another room for a shower and was told none were available. After I explained that I expected a credit, I tried the hot water again. It came on, but kept cutting in and out. Hard to believe this place has 4.5 stars. I wouldn't stay again.

The rooms were very clean, and the gym was spotless. Staff were helpful, and the amenities were all great. It's also nice to have the casino next door connected to the hotel, with restaurants there too.

The bathroom was the big problem: it wasn't clean enough, with dingy corners and red-orange mildew in the tub corners. The thermostat was broken, so the room stayed cold and was hard to adjust. Sound traveled badly, too. People in the hall seemed right in the room, and we could hear toilets flushing and TVs in the neighboring rooms. The beds were terribly hard, so we ended up running to Walmart for fluffy mattress pads. The pillows flattened as soon as we lay on them. We stay at Hilton properties, mostly Hampton, and these were among the least comfortable beds and pillows we've had. I do want to give credit to the staff, who were truly exceptional and accommodating. The breakfast area was always clean and stocked. The bed linens and mattress looked and smelled clean, with no hair, stains, bugs, or anything like that, though I wish there'd been a zipped mattress protector on the bed.
