Fairmont Pittsburgh

The spa was the best part of our Valentine's Day weekend. Everyone there was welcoming and professional, and the service was excellent. The property was clean and well maintained too. The bar felt different. Service seemed indifferent and we didn't feel especially welcome. A high-end hotel should still make every guest feel included. We were also frustrated by the fees and mixed messages. Parking came to nearly $70 a day, and we didn't learn its cost until checkout. There were additional charges for room service and restaurant and bar purchases too. We were told breakfast was included when booking, then told that wasn't the case after we ordered. Erin, the manager, handled it professionally and credited the breakfasts, which we appreciated. The unexpected costs and unclear communication left us feeling misled. Clearer pricing, especially for parking and dining inclusions, would improve the experience. There were good parts to the hotel, but the value and charges would make us hesitate to return.

The room was clean, modern, and had an amazing view. The hotel itself is really well designed and in a great spot. It's a two-minute walk to the subway, right in front of the Market St bus stop, and close enough that we barely needed valet. When we did use it, the team was prompt and helpful. Alajandra was awesome to talk with at check-in and gave me helpful local information about the colleges I was visiting. I don't understand the complaints about the rooms in other reviews. Great hotel, rooms, and views! 🏢

Getting around was easy since the hotel is downtown, within walking distance of restaurants, shops, and attractions. Breakfast had a solid range of choices too. The room was spacious, clean, and had what I needed for a short trip. I liked waking up to the city view, and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was modern and tidy. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the place has a welcoming feel as soon as you walk in. It isn't overly fancy, but it was a pleasant, reliable stay in a convenient spot for exploring Pittsburgh.

The room condition was the biggest problem. I had to move out of the first one because it was so bad, and the rooms seem overdue for a remodel. Cleaning and maintenance are lacking. I'm not especially picky, but I can tell a luxury hotel from an average business hotel. There are standards for five stars, and this place falls short on a lot of them. For all its great location, it feels like a mid-range Marriott in disguise. Sorry.
