Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Pittsburgh Airport

Mold in the shower, a strong smoke smell, and an old, dirty room. The customer service was awful too. I’ve called almost every day since making my reservation three weeks ago, but the manager is apparently never there. They say they can’t issue a refund without the manager, and they wouldn’t give me the manager’s number or help in any way. No refund, no contact details, just a huge hassle and a waste of time and money. I’d give it zero stars if I could. Avoid this hotel.

The staff at the property and customer service were both unable to help when I asked to switch rooms. They said there were no other clean rooms, and offered no other solution or compensation. With an early flight and nowhere else to go, I had to stay. I arrived around 10 PM to my reservation and found the room filthy, especially the bathroom, which felt unsafe and unsanitary. It reeked of urine. The toilet was dirty inside and out, the tub had a thick dark coating, grime was packed into the floor grout, and the fabric curtain had pubic hair on it. Brown splatters on the walls looked like they might be blood, urine, feces, or some mix of those. I didn’t feel safe showering and went to bed still covered in a full day of travel. The rest of the room was just as bad: dirt ground into the carpet and furniture, a TV that left my hands dirty, and a broken refrigerator that spoiled my groceries. These conditions are a serious health hazard and unacceptable for any hotel, especially one carrying the Wyndham name. Avoid this property.

The only real plus was being close to the airport. Over four days, this was otherwise a thoroughly unpleasant stay. The staff didn’t welcome me and seemed more interested in FaceTime with a friend. My third-floor room was reached by an old, sketchy elevator, and the whole floor smelled like hot garbage being cooked. Other floors smelled of food or weed. People left all night for flights without consideration for anyone sleeping. My air conditioner was broken and noisy all night, and the bathroom was dirty, with soap from previous guests still on the counter and tub. The side doors weren’t secure overnight, and there were bee and wasp nests above them. It’s family owned rather than corporate, and it felt like the family lived there too. I found nothing else to recommend it.

The outside already looks like a dump, and the rooms were just as unacceptable. The first one I got had shower walls that were decaying. I asked to move, but the next room was no better: stained sheets and toilet seat, stains on the tabletops, and someone else’s balled-up socks in the middle of the floor. I returned the key card right away and asked for a refund. They said only the manager could deal with it and promised a call the next business day. Three business days have passed without a call, so the poor service belongs on the list too.
