We travel a lot, and The Vellagio is now near the top of our list. We planned on just one night in the Calabria suite, but loved it enough to add a night in the Rome room. The hotel itself is part of the experience, so there was no need to leave for entertainment, even with all the downtown attractions nearby. The restored building is beautiful, the accommodations feel luxurious, and there’s a lovely atmosphere throughout. Soft music was playing in the common areas when we walked into the foyer. We had dinner at Rocco's, where every bite was delicious, the service impeccable, and the atmosphere great. Before dinner we shared a bottle of wine at the bar, and my husband also enjoyed a cigar and cocktail in the cigar bar. We enjoyed meeting Eddie and his sister. It was a top-notch stay and a real value for such luxury.

My wife and I love coming here. The rooms are wonderful, the food is fantastic, and we like winding down at the 1864 club at the end of the night. The Villagio is at the top of our list for places to stay in Pittsburgh.
The Amalfi room was spacious and charming, with a beautiful gas fireplace, a separate wardrobe room, and a small but decent TV. The bed was comfortable and the sheets were good quality. The vintage bathroom with its clawfoot tub was lovely, though it needs refinishing. The loveseat was extremely uncomfortable, with the metal springs easy to feel. Free parking was a plus and easy to use. We booked the room to get some rest during a long road trip. The place has a beautiful aesthetic throughout, and you can tell they kept as much of the original building as possible. It really is antique. There wasn’t a clear front desk or check-in area, so arriving felt a little awkward. One of the partners greeted us, but we weren’t introduced to any staff, which made it confusing later when we needed help. After dinner, tired from driving, we just wanted to relax. The TV and water both gave us trouble. The issues were addressed, but I had to keep running downstairs to the bar to find help because nobody answered when I called. I kept having to change out of my pajamas to go down. While waiting for a manager, I ordered a glass of wine at the bar, but couldn’t put it on our room, which was inconvenient. We enjoyed the stay, but a smoother service setup and a few updates would make this a five-star experience.
The courtyard was a peaceful place to sit with coffee or unwind after a busy day, and the gated parking gave us real peace of mind in the city. If you’re coming to Pittsburgh for a game, Villagio PGH is especially convenient, with Acrisure Stadium very close by. There’s plenty of character inside. The high ceilings make it feel grand and airy, while the creaking wooden floors seem to tell the story of the building. Villagio PGH blends historic charm with the comforts needed for a modern stay. It has genuine soul and easy access to the best of Pittsburgh. I’d strongly recommend this charming place.
Getting into the hotel was a hassle. We had no way in until we eventually found someone at the bar, who called someone else to get us the room door code. There’s no greeter at the front, the front door stays unlocked, and random people knocked on our door. Between that and the lack of privacy, it wasn’t a restful night. We had the first room at the top of the stairs. The bed was big and comfortable, but the window facing the stairs had no curtain, so anyone walking down could look in. You can hear everything: dinner conversations, the bar, creaky floors, and people walking and stomping. It started to quiet down around midnight. The hotel is close to the heart of Pittsburgh and Acrisure Stadium, but parking was awful, especially with restaurant valet using the same limited spaces hotel guests are supposed to use. I don’t think I’d stay again.
