DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Hotel Philadelphia West

The tub had several kinds of hair in it, there were stains on the main bed’s comforter, and the floor hadn’t been vacuumed. We were given a room with a pull-out couch set up, but the promised blankets and pillows weren’t in the closet. When I asked at the front desk, they offered a sheet and extra towels that I could try to use as a pillow. We were here for the Special Olympics event. What a way to spend a weekend with my child, who has special needs. I was absolutely disgusted by the level of care.

My stay raised serious security concerns. My belongings had been accessed without permission and some items were missing, so I called the police and filed a report. When I told the front desk and manager, they said there were no camera recordings or records of anyone entering my room besides me. The cameras weren’t working either, which I found unacceptable and incredibly inconvenient. Customer service was appalling, and the room was severely outdated. I had booked for a week, but left immediately and reserved a room at another hotel because I didn’t feel safe. Management did not care. I absolutely would not recommend this hotel. Stay away.

The night was so noisy I woke up at least five times to the toilet flushing and water running in the bathroom next door, and I could even hear people setting things on the sink. Since that bathroom backed onto my bedroom, at 3 a.m. I woke up scared that someone was coming into my room. It was only the neighbors coming into theirs. I also had to pick several long black hairs off the bed linen. I got through the night, but I was afraid to sleep there. Thank goodness I’d brought shower shoes, because the bathtub was gross and permanently gray. The coffee maker looked like a nice touch until I opened the water compartment. It was filthy. I was in Norristown for work and needed just one night, close to my job, so I tried to make do even though I was exhausted. The hotel seemed like a good deal, but the decor made me want to vomit. The sofa and chair looked extremely worn and dirty, with body-shaped impressions, and the curtains had multiple brown stains that looked like feces. I didn’t dare sit down. The bathroom was otherwise okay, though the vent looked clogged with dust. The carpet was visibly worn and very dirty, stains were all over the walls inside and outside the rooms, and even the baseboards looked worn. The place smelled strongly of mildew and seemed not to have been cleaned since its first year. This was the worst accommodation experience I’ve had in America. I felt like I was at a Motel 6. Normally I don’t write reviews, but spend a couple dollars more for somewhere nicer.

After celebrating my aunt’s 80th birthday, my husband and I spent one night here. Everything went smoothly. I checked in and out online, and the digital key worked perfectly, so I didn’t need to stop at the desk. It was an easy, relaxed stay and a great choice for a comfortable short visit.
