The one thing we were happy with was the free breakfast. After this stay, I won't sleep at any Days Inn again. My wife and I were there for 12 nights. We had an accessible room for two nights, with a shower stall, chair, and grab bars. Then construction meant the room had to be remodeled, so they moved us down the hall to one without accessible features. The desk attendant brought the shower chair from the first room and put it in the tub, but there were no grab bars. Showering was a struggle. The sheets were so worn from washing that you could see through them, and the pillows weren't comfortable. The blankets had burn holes. The old window AC was difficult to adjust, so we couldn't get comfortable. The pictures on the website looked good, but neither of our rooms matched them.

We checked out at 6:30 the next morning after nobody got any sleep. At 2 a.m. the baby woke up, and everyone else did too. My wife's younger siblings, who were sharing the other bed, spotted spiders near the headboard. After we killed them, we noticed little bugs crawling across their sheets. They squashed a few, and the bugs left an unbelievable amount of blood behind. They wouldn't sleep there after that and stayed up the rest of the night. My wife and I checked our own bed for bugs and couldn't see any at the time. The room was in awful shape. The shower rod wasn't mounted properly, and there were holes where it should have been fixed. Wallpaper was peeling all over, the place smelled of urine and who knows what else, and it hadn't been cleaned well. The sheets looked unchanged and still dirty, with cigarette burns in three of them. The whole room was in such poor condition that I didn't want to use the bathroom or shower, and I couldn't bathe my infant daughter there. We only stayed because it was late and she was already tired and asleep when we arrived. I felt terrible letting her sleep there. Photos would show what a mess it was. Getting the room was a problem from the start. I don't know whether they'd overbooked, but at check-in they didn't have our reserved room ready. They said one was being cleaned and would take time. This was 5:30 p.m., even though checkout is at 11 a.m. It made me wonder whether they were short staffed or simply didn't care about having rooms ready. We had plans before the shops and other places closed, so we left and said we'd come back later. They promised the room would be waiting. We went sightseeing, then returned at the end of the night. The overnight employee was unhelpful and seemed not to care when I told him about the room. I wanted to be sure he'd left by morning, and as I walked away I heard him and a coworker mocking me. The morning desk attendant asked why we were leaving early and what was wrong. I just said, “Everything.” I'd never asked for a full refund before, but this time I did. They said it would be refunded, so I'll have to see whether it goes back to my card. Worst hotel experience I've had. I don't know how the Days Inn in West Plymouth, Minnesota is still open. I'm sure there are plenty of health violations, and it should be shut down. I'll never stay at another Days Inn.

The best part for me was the small but tasty breakfast, with waffles, cereal, toast, and juice. We paid $55 a night, while other hotels we'd checked were at least $80, so I can understand some tradeoffs. Still, this wasn't a good hotel. If you're trying to spend as little as possible, it may do. Our room was dated but clean, and the TV worked, though it only had a few channels. There were cracks in the walls, and mold covered the shower ceiling. The toilet wouldn't flush. They said they'd fix it, and when we came back the room had been cleaned, but the toilet still didn't flush. It had bits of toilet paper in it, so they must have seen the problem. The worst thing was the smoke smell. Every so often it was strong, like someone was smoking and it was coming through the vents.

The staff were pleasant and tried hard to help us, though I felt they had little power to change our stay. We'd stayed here 5-6 years ago and found it clean and comfortable, with helpful staff. Something terrible seems to have happened since then. Our second room, #312, was never made up. During the entire Thursday-to-Monday stay, the linens weren't changed and the trash wasn't taken out. The guests directly above us were noisy at night and kept disturbing our sleep. On the last night, a vicious domestic argument went on from 2:00 to 4:00 a.m., and we heard what sounded like gunshots. The first room, #327, had its own problems: the window seemed about to fall out and whistled as freezing air blew in all night. A plumbing leak had soaked the carpet, smoke smell was everywhere despite the whole third floor supposedly being non-smoking, and the bathroom was dirty, with pubic hair on the floor. There was a hole with sharp edges in the bathtub, and the room was filthy. Looking for a vacation at the Okay Corral? This is the place for you.

The man at the front desk was kind, but the room was gross and disappointing. There was a draft coming through the window strong enough to move the curtain. The walls were chipped and peeling, and I found hairs inside the comforter. It didn't look like the carpet had been vacuumed. There were fingerprints all over the large mirror and its wall frame, no iron, and just one small towel in the bathroom. I went to the desk for more and got only one. Behind a door in the second-floor stairwell, several stacks of clear garbage bags and a stack of five-gallon buckets were in the way. With my luggage, I had to maneuver around them to get through the stairwell, and it seemed like a fire hazard. I wouldn't recommend staying here. It's worth paying more for a clean room.
