Hilton Vacation Club The Point At Poipu Kauai

I found a cockroach in the bathroom and was terrified of it. I cried for ten minutes until my mom came to rescue me. The place is gorgeous otherwise, with fabulous rooms and pretty good amenities.

The property is in a great location and the staff are very friendly. But unless you're an elite Hilton Vacation Club member, the rooms you're assigned badly need renovation. Don't let them pressure you into the Hilton Vacation Club presentation. We were kept there twice as long as promised, then treated rudely when my husband and I turned down the pitch. It took up half our day in paradise, made us feel awful, and they didn't give us the voucher amount we were promised when we booked it.

I was excited to find a room for two available on Kauai, but the resort is in rough shape. The staff were kind, yet the rooms seem to have been neglected for decades. Most of the property hasn't been renovated, and judging by the condition and cleanliness of older rooms, I doubt any updates would stay nice for long. Even with the windows left open before we arrived, the room smelled as soon as we entered. The bathroom fans didn't work at first, and only one was working when we left. Every kitchen cabinet handle had visible grime, the tile grout was black while the grout along the baseboards was white, and all the furniture was stained. There was peanut butter on the ottoman.

What a great, quiet resort, with amazing views, good pool bar food, and a lovely pool. I'd recommend having a car, and there are lots of trails. Water aerobics with Greg is a must, and he's also an amazing watercolor artist. Bartenders Mike, Marla, and Zayda were wonderful. The one hiccup was Keoki, who didn't seem interested in helping us.
