Regency at Poipu Kai #721

Condo 113 in building 18 was the best room we've stayed in for a lower price. Each condo has a different owner, so you never know what you'll get, but ours was clean, well stocked, and everything worked.

This property didn't live up to what the site showed. The pool and gym photos were false advertising: there's no gym, and we couldn't use any pool with a slide or anything substantial. The pool we did have access to was small and pretty rinky-dink. I had specifically asked what was and wasn't working before we arrived. Concrete grinding outside our room went on all day, starting at 7 a.m., and there was an outhouse right outside our door. Parking farther away because our lot was under construction wasn't a big deal on its own, but with the construction noise all day, there was no relaxation.

Jim and Juliana Cherry were easy to work with and very accommodating when we arrived earlier than planned. We stayed in #822, which had a washer, dryer, dishwasher, large fridge, and basics like paper towels, laundry detergent, soap, and toilet paper. The thermostat could be adjusted, and everyone enjoyed their rooms. My wife and I had a destination wedding with 14 guests, and we all fit comfortably in one larger condo and one smaller one. At breakfast we could all gather in one place without a problem. The pools are small, but fine for a quick dip, and the hot tubs beside them fit 8-10 people. They seemed to close a little early, though I understand noise can be an issue. I'd stay here again if I returned to Kauai.

Poipu beach is right at the edge of the gorgeous, manicured property. It has a shallow area protected by a rock wall for kids, another spot for snorkeling, and a section with bigger waves for boogie boards and surfboards. Shipwreck beach is a few minutes away by car and has larger waves, which our older kids preferred, but no snorkeling. We spent 12 days here, and the rental had everything we could want and more. A friend asked whether I'd recommend it, and I already have, though the dates they needed were booked. The place is definitely non-smoking. Entry uses a combination lock, so there was one less key to keep track of; a key is needed for the pool area, so you know only authorized people are there. We used the two grills a few times and loved the hot tub at night under the stars. The kitchen was extremely well equipped, with all the dishes, utensils, cookware, and tools you'd need. The dishwasher worked well and wasn't loud. There are three bathrooms, two downstairs and one upstairs, with enough linens that we never ran out, plus two or three hair dryers, an ironing board, and two irons. The two downstairs bedrooms have AC units; the upstairs loft doesn't. With the oscillating bedside fan on and the screened window open, we slept comfortably enough. Closets had plenty of hangers and lots of drawer and closet space. Across from the washer and dryer is a beach closet with four chairs, two umbrellas, plenty of sand toys, and small fins for a child. The decor was warm and inviting, though the couch isn't purple as it looks in the photo. A binder has useful facility and island information, and there are reading materials and island guidebooks too.
