The Villas At Poipu Kai

This was our second visit, and the property had plenty of space for our family and was very well equipped. It’s a beautiful, quiet resort, at least in early May. Bryan communicated excellently and responded quickly to our questions. The only reason I wouldn’t give the rooms five stars is that our adult kids and their spouses didn’t seem happy with the mattresses in the secondary bedrooms.

It’s a very convenient spot, within an easy walk of the beach, pool, and the Hawaii hot dog store. The rooms are spacious and well maintained, the place was very clean, and all the equipment worked perfectly. It suited our large family, and I’d love to return. Starter toiletries and cooking oil were provided, but not quite enough for our stay, so we bought full-size supplies and had to leave them behind. It felt a bit wasteful. That was a small thing, though. We had a wonderful stay and would happily come back.

We stayed in villa f211. The on-site team gave great customer service, but couldn’t fix the unit. Private vacations was quick to point out they don’t own it. The advertising calls it a luxury unit, but that didn’t match what we found. The master bed creaked with every movement. Both the dishwasher and dryer need replacing: the dryer takes 140 minutes for a load, and the dishwasher detergent door doesn’t open, so we had to scoop out the extra detergent each time. The baseboards and doors were dusty and dirty. The AC was set to 70, which didn’t do much in the humidity. They adjusted it after I complained, but this still isn’t a luxury spot. The buildings aren’t well built, so you can hear everything the neighbors do. There’s no cleaning service. What you do get is space, a pool that isn’t crowded, and a 10-minute walk to the beach. At $750-1000 a night, we’d have preferred somewhere smaller and closer to the water, maybe an older-looking but better-built place, or a hotel. I think other units are better maintained, so be wary of this particular one. F210 apparently added soundproofing because the walls are known to be very thin, and they also updated the appliances.

The condo was even better than the pictures when we arrived. It had everything we needed, including beach gear and a wagon to carry it, and the information book was thorough and helpful. Sounds from the pool were a bit loud at times, with voices carrying, especially with lots of families and little kids around. It seems perfect for them, though. If you want total quiet, choose a unit away from the pool. This is a special place, and we hope to come back someday.
