Uptown Inn

I was told to leave because of supposed nighttime “traffic.” In fact, a friend visiting me had a medical problem and was taken to the hospital. The next morning I asked to book another night and explained what had happened. They eventually agreed if I paid a $250 deposit, which I did. It's been two weeks and I still haven't gotten any of it back.

Breakfast was a pleasant surprise: they had make-your-own waffles, eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, muffins, bagels, bread, yogurt, cereal and oatmeal, and fruit. It's not a luxurious hotel, but it does the job and was clean, which matters most to me. The bed was comfortable, though the rooms and especially the bathrooms are a bit outdated. There was no A/C, and our room got hot in early September. Olympic National Park is close by. The area felt a bit sketchy with some homeless people nearby, but overall I felt safe.

I went to ask about changing rooms, and the staff member was a bit rude. They just said, “We’re full,” without offering any help with the problems. The room at the Uptown Inn was dark, dingy, and clearly needed renovations. There was a strong cat urine-like smell when we came in. We eventually figured out it came from a bush outside the window and seeped in through gaps in the poorly sealed front door. The bedding didn't look clean, and the mattress protectors had visible stains in the photos I posted. There's no extractor fan in the bathroom, and mold and mildew had built up there, also visible in my photos. The floor was sticky, and after a short time barefoot my children's feet were completely black. It was one of my worst hotel stays. I'll never return and don't recommend it.

The breakfast here is very good every day. It would be even better with hash browns or bread alongside it. The Inn could also make cooking easier by moving the stovetop to the far end of the small countertop and putting the sink in the middle. That would leave more workspace for cooking and room beside the stovetop for condiments.
