Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Port Clinton Catawba Island

We had an amazing view from both our room and the lobby. The breakfast had lots of choices, including eggs, bagels, and a waffle maker, and it was set up nicely. Thanks to Tasha, the breakfast attendant, for kindly letting me grab a waffle after breakfast had closed because the seven-year-old birthday boy had slept in. The new Hampton Inn PC also has convenient amenities, and we had a great stay.

A storm on the island meant I needed a room quickly. Charlie was kind and patient with my stress, got me settled fast, and answered questions before I even thought to ask them. The room was very clean, and breakfast had something for everyone, from hot food to a quick muffin. I'll definitely stay again. Thanks, Charlie, they're lucky to have you.

This place is on a pond beside the lake. The setting is swampy, but pretty, with a nice outdoor seating area and gas fire pit. Don't expect a seashore here. If that's what you want, go to the Outer Banks or Jersey Shore. Bugs are part of nature, and bug zappers attract them. Mayfly season sounds awful, with millions of them and a crunch underfoot, and I wouldn't visit then again. There's no business center, so you can't print anything. The rooms were clean and spacious, but badly built. Every door seems to have been hung wrong, and some won't close at all. Expect loud slamming day and night, loud enough to wake you like a bomb. I don't blame rude guests for that. There was no toilet paper holder, just a hole where one may have been, so you'd need to reach behind you to the tank. There were few towels and not enough hooks. Breakfast was mediocre and had far fewer choices than at other Hamptons I've stayed in. The juice machine was out of order, with warm, watered-down orange juice in a dispenser instead. The plastic utensils were so flimsy I couldn't cut a waffle. Some staff seemed clueless, but they were friendly and pleasant. I was surprised they wouldn't give me water at check-in. I've been traveling for four weeks and every other Hilton property offered it. I brought it up with the GM, who was polite and gave me two bottles, thank you. She said Hilton's policy gives water only to Gold and Platinum members, and that she sticks to policy. She thought other properties handed it out to get better reviews. She should check Hilton's website, which says Silver members also get free water at check-in. She could also apply that strictness to the property's many shortcomings. Maybe I'm picky, or maybe I stick to things too. Next time I'll stay at the Holiday Inn Express across the street, and it won't be during mayfly season.

The room was clean and fresh, the staff were great, and the bed was excellent. Tabby at the front desk was so sweet and fun to talk with. Breakfast was good for a hotel breakfast, too. My one small gripe is that the shower heads were too high for me to reach and change the setting. That's probably because I'm short. I'll stay here again when I come back to Lake Erie.
