Quality Inn Port Clinton Waterfront

I used to like this hotel and had stayed several times over six years without problems, but it now feels like the people running it don't care about guests. Employees were rarely around because they were at the owners' other hotel next door, which was closing for the season. I went to the front desk a few times during the week to raise issues and was told management wasn't there. The bathtub was nasty, the Wi-Fi never worked, and the trash cans stayed full. Housekeeping didn't leave toilet paper, so we bought our own, and I had to buy tools to fix the shower head because water was spraying everywhere. At checkout I took a video because there was a notice saying they'd charge $75 for cleaning if the room was dirty. I won't stay here again.

The rooms smelled of smoke and urine, and the air quality was terrible. The carpet was dirty, there was mold in the bathrooms, and the sheets were dirty when we arrived and had not been changed. We also reported the cleanliness and mold to the local health department. We disputed fraudulent charges with our credit card company, but management won't return calls, including theirs. The front desk staff leave messages for management in a notebook, yet management is never on site and doesn't even call its own employees back. A horrible place to stay, with unprofessional service throughout.

The location was perfect, and breakfast was good. The room was clean, though it showed signs of wear, including chipped lower wall corners and things that need updating. The jacuzzi wasn't very clean, and its exterior was a little damaged. It was otherwise fine, but the side entrance could use more cameras since people leave trash right outside it.

I booked three nights for December and gave the staff my credit card details when I made the reservation. Then, a month before the trip, they called to say they'd decided not to open over winter and canceled it without offering another option. Rick at the front desk was unhelpful and had a bit of an attitude. Choose somewhere else.
