The Bishop Hotel

The extra cost felt like a one-sided deal. I’d spent the previous night at a budget hotel near the shipyard with no complaints, then paid more than twice as much to stay in town and treat myself. Room 19 was spacious, but not comfortable for relaxing: the couch was a joke, there were no curtains on the living room windows, and the place smelled odd. The historic hotel had little warmth or character, and even getting through the entrance with luggage was awkward. The cafe was lively, but without a real lobby I had to queue among thirsty cafe patrons to check in. They charge $10 for parking in a small town with plenty of street parking, and the add-on selling felt like the same shameless model I’ve seen at other small hotels and B&Bs. When a place advertises itself as nice and costs that much more, I expect something in return.

The beds are really soft, and the tub is deep enough to sink into. The hotel is decorated wonderfully, and the front desk and housekeeping staff were incredible. I’d stay here again and again.

Our wedding weekend at the Bishop Hotel was perfect. We had all 16 rooms filled with close friends and family and hosted 180 guests. Everyone was treated kindly and made to feel welcome by the staff throughout the weekend. Rosetta and Danielle made planning such a large event feel seamless. The drinks were incredible, the bar staff lovely, and everything looked stunning. We also held a Sunday brunch for our guests, and the food was incredible, especially the blackberry scones. I’d recommend the Bishop for a stay or an event in Port Townsend. We can’t wait to visit again soon.

The location was great, the staff were nice, and brunch at The Bottle Shop was good, but the room felt very budget for boutique prices. We booked the Ground Floor Suite (Pet Friendly), expecting a cozy, private space. The listing mentioned special features such as jetted tubs and listed a fireplace, but room 25 had neither a tub nor a fireplace, and didn’t match the pictures or the nicer parts of the description. Kitchen sounds from The Bottle Shop came through the bedroom wall from about 7:30 on both Saturday and Sunday, getting fairly constant by 8:15. On Saturday, we could still hear the kitchen in the evening until around 9. I don’t think we’ll return.
