We only stayed one quick night, arriving late and leaving early, so we didn’t raise these problems while there. I wouldn’t come back, and the place reminded me of a rundown Motel 6. We’d booked a studio suite, but got a standard hotel room with a horribly stained couch pushed in to make it count as a studio. It was too gross to sit on. The old property had other serious issues too. The AC and heating unit was coming out of the wall, and cold air from outside, 37°, blew the curtains. The heat didn’t work. It was unplugged when we arrived because the fan never stopped running. The bathroom door was warped at the bottom, apparently after a bathtub overflow, and took a hard yank to open or close. The soap dispenser was mounted to the left of the doorway, far from the sink in the middle of the side wall. The shower didn’t drain, and water rose above my ankles. We often stay at Hampton Inns because we know what to expect and they usually meet basic standards. This was our first disappointment.

Angie made breakfast feel especially welcoming, greeting us with a big smile and a hearty good morning. The bed was comfortable, the shower nice and hot, and I slept well after asking for a quiet room. I’d worried about highway noise, but it wasn’t an issue. The property is a little older, though it was clean and well maintained. It was a very pleasant stay and good value, and I’d come back.

I’m submitting this so management knows what happened and can address it before other guests have a similar experience. Customer service in a hotel should be courteous, especially when a guest asks a reasonable question, and this interaction fell well short. I was calm and respectful, but felt uncomfortable and disrespected right at the start of my stay. On January 10, 2026, I checked into the Tempty Inn in Port Wentworth, Georgia, and the front desk employee identified herself as Mandi (spelled M-A-N-D-I). At first, check-in went fine and she found my reservation. When she asked for a card for a $25 incidental charge, I asked when the incidental amount had become $25. I understood that incidentals were required; I just wanted clarification. Instead of answering, she asked, “Why did you ask me the question then?” Her response was dismissive and rude. I explained politely that she hadn’t answered me, but she became even shorter and more unprofessional rather than clarifying or calming things down. I did nothing to deserve that treatment.

We were happy with our quick stop and have no complaints. The room was clean, had what we needed, and the bathroom came with enough towels and some toiletries. Breakfast was complimentary, small and simple, but enough to satisfy our hunger. The hotel is older and somewhat run down, but the staff were friendly and welcoming. We were driving from Florida up the East Coast toward South Carolina and needed a break. The Hampton-Inn is right off I-95, with restaurants and stores a short drive away. We ate at La Parrilla Mexican cuisine, 15 min south, in a cute, modern, trendy restaurant in a nice plaza. Downtown Savannah and the historic district were 20/25 min away, so we drove over to visit. We’re young women traveling on our own and felt safe with the location. It seemed to be mostly families and older travelers stopping on their way. It’s a cheap, affordable I-95 hotel, so I hadn’t expected much, but it exceeded my expectations. I don’t understand all the 1 star reviews.

The pool was closed for “non-compliance” according to the health department, and breakfast service was frustrating. Breakfast began at 7 AM, but the coffee was empty by 7:05 and wasn’t refilled until 7:25. The hotel was very run down, probably the worst Hampton Inn we’ve stayed in. The carpets were dirty and worn, the room furniture was stained and dirty, and a cabinet hinge was broken. Definitely below Hampton Inn standards. I won’t stay again.
