Holiday Inn Express and Suites Portage by IHG

The staff were friendly and easy to talk with, and breakfast had lots of good options. Our room was spacious, and the hotel is newer and updated. It sits near a fairly quiet state way, so we barely heard anything at night. I’d recommend staying here and would come back if I were in the area.

At 1:30 pm, the welcoming guy at reception helped us check in. The beds were clean and comfortable, and everything else looked clean too, though there was some hair on the bathroom floor. Breakfast was pretty bare by 9:00 am: most plates were empty, with no coffee, sausage, eggs, bread, or cereal. My daughter liked the hot oatmeal, and muffins showed up again at 9:40.

The beds were comfortable, and the location worked well for us since it was close to the beach. Cleanliness was a problem, though. We found hair on the beds and in the bathroom, plus dirty towels in shared spots like the elevator. Breakfast supplies were often gone and slow to be refilled, so on the second day we went somewhere else. I also booked the wrong weekend by mistake through Booking.com, and the hotel wouldn’t refund me. I’d suggest booking directly if you stay here. I suppose I’ll be making the trip from Cincinnati back in a couple of weeks so those few hundred dollars don’t go to waste.

I don’t get the complaints. It’s a pretty new hotel, and the front desk was friendly and helpful. Sometimes people are just primadonnas, or maybe they don’t stay here.
