The beds were a little soft, but the water pressure was fine. Food was good, staff were great, and the rooms were clean. The area is very industrial and right by the highway, and seeing homeless people at the gas station out front felt a little unnerving. I saw security several times, though, and had no problems with anyone.
The receptionists were nice, and the hotel is right by the freeway, so it was easy to reach inner Portland. But the room was cheap and nasty. It smelled awful, like dirty socks, the hair dryer didn’t work, and there were bits of food on the floor by the bed. The walls are paper thin, so I could hear the people next door getting freaky.
I was charged $250 for allegedly taping a bag over the smoke detector, with no warning or follow-up. I don’t smoke. I’d walked a couple of blocks to the food carts, so even if I did smoke, I could have done it outside. I spent time and money getting cotinine and drug tests and collecting medical records in case my charge dispute failed. I would have taken them to small claims. The charge was posted, and only closed this month after I disputed it. I called the night I saw the charge on my card and spoke with someone I believe was Kyle. I told him I don’t smoke, and he said, “nobody else was in the room since you left.” I never heard from management or Kyle that a refund had been started. I didn’t get a credit until I disputed it, and it wasn’t processed as a refund, so I’m skeptical it was reversed that same day. I said I’d start a chargeback, and he basically said, “okay.” If management had contacted me and acknowledged I hadn’t done this, I wouldn’t have spent time and money proving there was no reason for me to tamper with the detector. I still don’t know what error led to the $250 charge. The outside area was littered, with a large homeless encampment right at the entrance. Guests need a key card to enter the lobby, but the property is otherwise unsecured. ChoiceRewards reviews say the door doesn’t work well and describe random people walking through the lobby. I’d also seen reviews there about safety and alleged fraudulent charges. The airport location is fine. Don’t stay at the Delta Park location. Thanks for replying to my post. I see now that Sarah followed up on the Choice Privileges website, but I didn’t get a notification. I’ll try to follow up later and adjust this review then. Some communication from management, either at the time or now, would have meant a lot. I enjoy Country Inn locations and have recommended them for years, so this felt like a slap in the face.
The lobby was pleasant, and the breakfast in the morning was decent. I chose this hotel because it was the closest one for visiting my daughter. As I drove into the lot, there were lots of homeless people and garbage, and I worried about my car. It was reassuring that the lobby entrance needs a guest key card, so people can’t just wander in. My room and the whole floor smelled of old cigarette smoke and air freshener trying to cover it, all soaked into the carpet. I left the window open all the next day and sprayed my own deodorant to make the second night more bearable. Harsh LED lighting and a dead bug squashed under the glass in the framed art above the desk added to the unpleasant feel.
Safety alert, stay at your own risk. I stepped on a nail in the room and was bleeding. I told the front desk and emailed the managers. The hotel refunded the room cost ten days later, but only after I kept calling. They wouldn’t cover medical bills or the days I had to stay home to recover, and the GM denied any wrongdoing. I have pictures to show what happened.
