Hampton Inn Portland Downtown - Waterfront

We brought our eight-month-old, and the spacious room worked well for us. The shower was amazing, with strong pressure and plenty of hot water. Staff were very helpful, and we could walk to food and other things we needed, even in winter. The price was just right. We've already agreed we'll be back in Portland this summer and will most likely stay here again.

The harbor is only two blocks away, which was handy for seeing December's Parade of Lights and fireworks. We also found great restaurants, local coffee, and excellent pastry shops within an easy half-mile walk. We liked having the Friendly Toast restaurant attached on the first floor. You do have to go outside to reach it, but there's plenty to choose from for lunch. We stayed with family and found it a great location. The staff brought extra towels when we asked and checked that we had what we needed to be comfortable. The blackout shades were a game changer for the kids' naps. Breakfast was family friendly, with a good selection for different diets, and the hot options changed during our stay. On weekends, expect lots of families with kids. If that's not your thing, there are other nearby places with a more grown-up feel. After the weekend, it got much quieter and had more of a business-travel crowd. The valet was a bit of a pain: with 15-20 minutes' notice, getting the car was fine, but when we just wanted something from it, it was hard to find the valet to borrow our keys. The saltwater pool isn't heated, so convincing our kids to get in was tough.

The beds were comfortable, the rooms clean, and the location made it easy to reach major streets and nearby restaurants. Breakfast was fine, but I would've preferred real plates and utensils over disposable ones. There seemed to have been toiletries shelves in the shower before, judging by the marks, and I would've liked more space there. I'd recommend the hotel.

Street parking was hard to find, but I used SpotHero and found an indoor garage one block away for much less than the hotel's parking price. The location itself is perfect, though I might stay again only after quite a while. I'm a loyal Hilton guest and have stayed at many Hampton Inns. At check-in, Kenneth seemed annoyed I was there and kept talking with his coworker while checking me in. I didn't feel welcome. The furniture still worked, but it had lots of dents and scratches and needs replacing. Breakfast was fine, though the selection felt smaller than what I've come to expect at Hampton Inns.
