Motel 6 Troutville, VA

I’ll stop here again on my next trip through. The room was comfortable, and the heater ran quietly. Even though it’s close to interstate 81, you wouldn’t know it from inside. The clerk was a pleasant lady who kindly gave me a room by the dog walk area, and it was handy to have a floor mat for wiping shoes.

We stopped here after a 12-hour drive. It was clean and, as far as updates go, better than most Motel 6 places. Getting there was somewhat easy, aside from the road craters.

We had no complaints during our couple of nights here. The office staff were very friendly, and our room was very clean.

The bed was comfortable, the water was hot, and the location was handy for food. We’d picked this place for an affordable one-night stop after more than eight hours on the road with my family, but we barely slept. While watching TV, we saw baby cockroaches crawling around, then a larger one, and spent most of the night worrying more would appear. In the microwave, we found a tray of food left by a previous guest. In the morning I went to the office to explain what happened and ask if they could accommodate us. The desk worker seemed unconcerned, said the manager wasn’t there, and told me I should have reported it the night before. It was late, and I didn’t know the office stayed open that long. She still showed no sympathy or apology and said there was nothing she could do. I guess you get what you pay for. This was my last stay at a Motel 6.
