I felt safe and looked after here as a solo female traveler. The front desk was incredibly supportive: they held my bags after checkout while I was in the city, lent me an umbrella, and gave me coffee shop tokens, which were such a treat. The cozy, eclectic space has a relaxed feel, and public transit makes it easy to reach. What an unexpected gem. Highly recommend.
We could walk back to the Clyde in ten minutes or less all weekend, after eating, drinking, and shopping nearby. The rooms are affordable for how distinctively they’re decorated, and the location worked perfectly for us. Staff at the front desk were especially sweet and pointed us toward fun places to eat and visit. We hadn’t been downtown Portland in years and weren’t sure where to stay, but the Clyde really came through. We’ll absolutely be back.
The common spaces feel comfortable and charming, and the staff are kind and helpful. There’s a lovely coffee shop next door, too. I don’t usually make much use of a full-service hotel’s amenities, so what matters most to me is a clean, comfortable place and customer service that’s there when I need it. Kasa properties get those things right.
I’d skip this place, especially if you’re bringing a pet. My room was musty and had so much mold in the shower that I could smell it as soon as I opened the glass door. I decided to go without a shower during the trip and use Planet Fitness instead. The room and bed were uncomfortable, and the pillows left my body aching the next day. The front door codes also seem to give them trouble fairly often, though check-in itself was easy enough. Noise was another big problem. From around 3 a.m. until dawn, there was screaming and loud commotion nearby. I’ve stayed in some sketchy places, but I’ve never heard tweakers make this much noise. You’ll hear it. The area is sketchy, though honestly that alone doesn’t put me off. I have a small, generally well-behaved dog, and I’ve never stayed at a hotel that didn’t allow dogs to be left unattended. If I’d known The Clyde had that rule, along with noise decibel sensors, I never would’ve booked. I’d paid an $80 pet fee, and my Airbnb booking said nothing about pets not being left alone. The morning after our first night, I went to Cheryl's for breakfast around the corner. My pup doesn’t usually bark much, but after a really rough travel day, I could see how he might be anxious. His barking triggered a sensor I hadn’t known was in the room. An alert popped up on my phone saying my stay would be cancelled if the noise continued, and telling me to call the front desk. I called to explain I’d be back shortly, but the staff member was curt and not very friendly. She told me then that pets couldn’t be unattended. The one bright spot was the very sweet front desk woman who helped us and our pup during our last two days. We complimented her Fidlar shirt, and she’s a Raiders fan like us. I hope she sees this, knows she’s doing a great job, and knows she made our stay a little better. Anyway, the place feels misleading. I’d go somewhere else, maybe the Society Hotel or even Staypineapple, which would be a step up.
Lars and Ashley brought so much warmth and happiness to my birthday. They made my 60th the best ever, and I’ll hold onto that memory. Adam also went above and beyond to get the sound quality and system working well. Thank you all. Another stellar visit to the Clyde, with good music, great vibes, a lovely atmosphere, and fabulous staff. The Water Avenue Coffee is darn good too. Try the bean and cheese breakfast burrito with the complimentary coffee!
