Hilton Garden Inn Portsmouth Downtown

Great location, clean rooms, and nice staff. I’ve enjoyed staying here more than once, but when I finally tried breakfast, it was truly awful. The bread was stale, the bacon seemed microwaveable, and the potatoes were overcooked, which is impressive because I’ve never met a potato I didn’t like. The selection was pitiful, and the food was barely palatable, even though the service was superb. For my family of four, it cost $62. I’ve had much better free hotel breakfasts. Don’t waste your money on breakfast here.

My room wasn’t cleaned or the bed made on the second day, though I paid full price for both days. I was told Hilton hotels no longer make beds every day. I came for a respite and wanted to be cared for, so I was very disappointed. The website says breakfast is included, but there was no breakfast. The TV was frustrating too: the remote was confusing, it was hard to find channels or see the program guide onscreen, and there weren’t many shows. I wouldn’t stay here again.

The room was spacious, but the bed was lumpy and uncomfortable. I asked about breakfast and was told it was served Saturday and Sunday from 7 AM-11 AM. We went down and found nothing, then messaged again. Someone said they’d be with us in a moment, but nobody came, so we left. At checkout, we were told they no longer serve breakfast on Sundays. I couldn’t find that information on the website either. What games are we playing? With so many other places to choose from, I won’t stay here again.

The location was great, but the hotel felt overpriced. I found the puzzle-style artwork in my room and hallway annoying. The TV worked, though getting channels or seeing what was on was difficult. The people next door were too loud at 11 PM or midnight. And $3 for each bottle of water in the room felt cheap.
