The Historic Hygge Hotel

The baristas were sweet, and the coffees they made were delicious. When we needed a few extra things, the staff brought them over quickly. Just know there aren’t breakfast options nearby beyond a gas station. A delightful hotel otherwise.

We really appreciated how kind and helpful everyone was, especially with making sure we had what we needed for our stay so close to the border. The staff were very sweet, the service was spectacular, and our room was clean. Thank you so much for all your help.

The little gift and coffee shop was very cute, and the dining area had reading material about the historic site. The hotel itself has a quirky charm, and checking in and out was easy. The website listed breakfast, but we learned after arriving that the kitchen had closed because there weren’t enough customers. There was bread for toast, instant oatmeal, and packaged pastries for purchase, so the listing should be updated. Our room felt cozy, but it was very small. The walls were paper thin, there were no rubber seals around the doors, and hallway light came through the windows above the doors when the automatic light turned on. We blocked it with a pillow. The decorative headboard wasn’t attached to either the bed or the wall. It’s a nice place, but I wouldn’t choose it for a private, romantic getaway.

Powers Lake is beautiful and an easy walk away. We were happy with our stay, and chose this place over a motel hoping for a cleaner room. The rooms were clean, quaint, and old fashioned, and check-in was easy. We didn’t see the owner, though, and it felt a little unfriendly that nobody was around after 7 p.m. or before 8 in the morning. Both rooms had old coffee grounds left in the coffee makers, which was a bit unsettling. It seemed somewhat overpriced, though maybe we’re just not used to traveling.
